Y3 visit to Barnes Common
On Monday Y3 went on their second Learning Walk to Barnes Common. We got to be water detectives as we looked for water on the common. We found ponds, a boardwalk over a wetland, and even a Metropolitan Water Board manhole cover! Next we looked at the importance of water to the things living on the Common, for example trees such as the Black Poplar saplings planted in the tree nursery and the willow tree. It was so exciting to see frog spawn in the pond! Then we looked at some facts about the plants growing on the common. We then did some maths to work out how much water we all used each day – it was quite a lot! Paddy, our leader, read us a book called Once Upon a Raindrop and we all acted out the life cycle of a rain drop. Finally we wrote our own individual acrostic poems using the word WATER as the word that spells out the first letter of each line. We had such a fantastic morning!
