Our creative and engaging curriculum hooks the children in; taking them on a journey of new knowledge, discovery and academic excellence! The children travel back in time and find out all about Florence Nightingale and her role in the Crimean War and the Great Fire of London producing some fantastically evocative and gory writing in the process. They also broaden their horizons developing their knowledge of the wider world as they learn all about China drawing comparisons between life in UK and Chinese schools.
Find out why our Year 2 pupils thrive
Welcome to Year 2. This is a very exciting time for our pupils, as they really reap the rewards of the solid foundations laid in EYFS and Year 1. They are encouraged to work more independently, and acquire many new strategies that will support them as they make the transition into Key Stage 2. This final year in the Infants is full of exciting opportunities for our pupils to build their confidence and take the lead for the first time, whether it is in our Christmas Nativity, on scooter training or within the classroom.
Year 2 key information
This is the year of the Key Stage 1 (KS1) end-of-year statutory attainment tests known as SATS, which help us to ensure our pupils are making the best possible progress. Whilst we encourage and support our children to achieve their very best, they form only a small part of Year 2, and the school approaches them as an opportunity for our children to show off all they have learnt in Key Stage 1, rather than as daunting formal examinations.
Due to the ongoing disruption caused by COVID 19 the government has decided that no KS1 SATs tests will take place in 2021. The children will continue to work towards the same end of key stage targets and their attainment will be assessed by their teachers using a range of formative and summative assessments. This will be shared with you in their end of year reports.
Normally, the children would complete the following tests in a classroom setting:
- Maths (Arithmetic and Reasoning)
- Grammar, Spelling and Punctuation.
There is a short video below about the KS1 tests here:
