St Paul’s Maths Challenge
On Monday 9th June, 5 pupils from Year 5 took part in a Maths Challenge at St Paul’s school.
We divided into two teams to complete a Crossnumber and do several Maths Relays. The pupils really enjoyed working together to solve these challenges. With the cross number, one team received the across clues, whilst the other received the down clues, sharing information between each other to complete all the answers.
In the Maths relays, pupils relied on their teammates’ answers to progress. One team were given set A questions and the other half set B. Apart from the starting question, to be able to work out an answer, pupils needed the previous answer that the other team had worked out. This pattern continued – hence the ‘relay’.
The challenge is designed to stretch students to the fullest extent of their abilities and potentially a little beyond and we were very proud to come joint first – especially as all the other teams were year 6 pupils or a 5/6 mix!
Well done to all involved and thanks to St Paul’s school for hosting us.
