Pensford Field – 25th April & 9th May
Reception had a fantastic time visiting Pensford Field. We learnt how to be safe whilst exploring the environment, such as being mindful of beehives, not touching stinging nettles, putting animals back where we find them if picking them up and pond safety. The children then explored the field and played a game of hide and seek, listening to the response call ‘1,2,3 we’re over here’ and using this to find their friends.
They had great fun pond dipping, identifying different minibeasts such as water boatman, leeches, newts and tadpoles, exploring the mud kitchen, digging in the mud and identifying minibeasts by lifting logs and using magnifying glasses.
We discussed the signs of spring and followed this up with a spring themed activity. The children created their own flag by collecting a range of colourful flowers, putting them under a cloth and pressing down on this with a stone to release the colour. They then found a stick to attach the flag to. We had some beautiful designs!
The children then learnt how to start a fire using the fire pit and had lots of fun toasting marshmallows to make smores. They had to be very careful near the fire pit, keeping a safe distance and kneeling on one knee to keep a good balance. Thank you to all of the parent helpers who accompanied us on our trip!
