Richmond Safe Walking Scheme
Earlier this week Year 3 were fortunate to be visited by the instructors from Richmond’s Road Safety Team who took them in small groups on two walks of approximately 30 minutes each. They have practised:
- 1. walking safely on the pavement, keeping away from the road;
- 2. choosing a safe place to cross the road, in a straight line, onto a clear pavement;
- 3. making sure they can see clearly and be seen by all road users;
- 4. crossing with care, at a safe time; and
- 5. using pedestrian crossing points to cross busy roads.
After successfully completing the training everyone was awarded a Richmond Safe Walking Certificate. Children learn by example so do set a good example for them and continue to practise safe walking with them to prepare them for walking independently when they are older.
