Welcome to Year 1D.
Year One is an exciting year, as children progress from the Foundation Stage to Key Stage One. The transition involves focused work along with free choice activities and encourages the children to learn more independently. The cross-curricular topics are sure to engage each learner.
We journey to the coast and the past in our topic of Seasides; explore the world around us in the topics of light, sounds and electricity and marvel at nature in the topics of volcanoes and plants. We combine a study of homes with Knights and Castles and consolidate our learning with a trip to the Queen’s favourite home, Windsor Castle.
This learning is underpinned by a focus on reading. We will continue to develop the children’s knowledge and use of phonics, which will give them the tools to become confident readers and writers.
Numeracy learning in Year One is also based on practical activities, providing many opportunities to practice and learn key skills.
