Pupil Premium 2016/17

The Government believes that the Pupil Premium, which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between children eligible for free school meals (FSM) and their wealthier peers by ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the pupils who need it most. Pupil Premium is also used for Looked After Children (CLA) and children of armed services personnel.

The Pupil Premium is allocated to schools and is clearly identifiable. It is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium is spent, since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility.

At St. Mary Magdalen’s Catholic Primary School we have a relatively small number of pupils who are eligible for free school meals. When our last school census was taken January 2015 the figure was 14 pupils (about 6% of the school roll). Pupil performance data at our school shows consistently and conclusively that all pupils do well, whether they are eligible for a free school meal or not. We target this money to support those pupils eligible for free school meals who require extra support with their learning. We also use some of it to offer to support other pupils who are at a disadvantage when compared to their peers even if they are not eligible for a free school meal. In this way we ensure that this additional funding has a positive impact on learners.

In the 2016-2017 financial year our allocation is £30,200.
