Year 5

Year 5 key information

Learning and curriculum

The varied curriculum prepares our children superbly for their final year of primary school. Alongside daily maths and English lessons, children will experience the wonders of Space and marvel at the achievements of the Ancient Greeks; as well as developing their skills in art, PE, music and computing.

The true highlight of Year 5 is our residential trip to Sayers Croft in Surrey, and for many of the children, it is their first time away from home. It is wonderful to see the pupils embark on this adventure with confidence and enthusiasm. Watching them putting into practice all they have learnt; working together to identify the constellations in the clear night skies and navigating zip wires through the trees is a proud moment. Seeing them create these magical memories, we know that our children leave Year 5 ready to embrace the opportunities and responsibilities that Year 6 brings.

Assessments

Formative assessments are made throughout the year and summative assessments are carried out at the end of each term or topic. This information is shared with parents by your child’s teacher and their progress and targets are discussed at our October and February Parents’ evenings. You will also receive a written report detailing their end of year outcomes in July.
